21st September 2023: Networking Workshop for PAWS 4-5 PM

Dr. Shawn Nordell will be hosting a workshop about the importance of networking, and how to network for both academic and industry careers. This workshop will take place over zoom. 

14th October 2023: Presentation Skills Workshop for PAWS 9:30 AM - 2 PM

Kathryn Keller, Founder & Director of The Human Communication Studio, is returning to host a workshop on the skills and strategies to ace a presentation or interview. This even is in person, location TBD.

Previous Events:

18th April 2023: PAWS Career Expo (sponsored by ACS)

PAWS hosted a career expo, in collaboration with ACS, to allow all attendees to obtain insight on pursuing a range of different career paths in STEM. Thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Pyun, who gave a presentation on how he got to where he is as a professor in chemistry here at UA. Thank you to Kathryn Kellner, who gave a talk on how to properly prepare and give presentations. Thank you ACS for talking with us about how we can get connected as an ACS member! We also thank all of our panelists, Kara Bitter, Emily Halvorson-Otts, Rachel Anger, Dr. Jen Noble, Dr. Margaret Wilch, and Quinea Lassiter, for answering all of our questions about pursuing different career paths and giving advice for young scientists. We also want to thank all of our networking participants that gave insight about working in industry, academia, and science communication. It was a great event that helped shape the minds of all young scientists!

1st January 2023: Monthly seminar, Dr. Joann Sweasy, Director of University of Arizona Cancer Center

Dr. Sweasy gave an excellent seminar via zoom about what it has been like taking on the role as the director of cancer research here at the UA and what its like running her own research group! Thank you to Dr. Sweasy for all of your contributions and advice on pursuing an academic career in STEM!

3rd November 2022: Monthly seminar, Dr. Katie Kuhns, Senior Licensing Manager, Tech Launch Arizona 

Dr. Kuhns gave insight to PAWS members about her extensive experience in managing disclosure and intellectual property (IP) portfolios, assessing the commercial potential of technologies, marketing, and negotiating agreements. Dr. Kuhns answered many questions and helped encourage those who want to pursue an unconventional career path after their graduate studies. Thank you to Dr. Kuhns for your incredible presentation!
